Blogging A to Z: Xanthous

He stared, fixated on the flow of fabric as she moved about the apartment.  The slow setting of the sun set off the xanthous color of Katherine’s dress as she danced.  The fabric clung to her body as she chatted amiably at him.  He realized that she had stopped talking when he finally looked up at her.

She stood in front of him, hands on her hips with a small smirk on her face.  “Mesmerized, as we?” she asked.

He nodded.

“I guess you like the dress,” she asked as Katherine spun.

Alex smiled, standing up to twirl her again.

Blogging A to Z: Weight

The weight of the world instantly lifted from their shoulders when they saw each other.  And as they ran to each other crying, another dark cloud came up.  They moved to the side and away from the crowd.

“I thought,” one started.

“You didn’t,” the other said.

“It doesn’t matter.  None of it matters right now.  You’re here and safe.  That’s all.”  He nodded resting his forehead against her’s.

“We need to leave,” he finally said, breathing in her subtle perfume.  Leaning against her, they walked away from the disaster.  “I’m sorry about your dress.”

“No, it doesn’t really matter.”

Blogging A to Z: Vacuous

Her smile was vacuous as she search the crowd for Alex.  The flow of people suddenly and worryingly came to a halt as the air around her suddenly buzzed with an emotion she couldn’t name.

A belch of think black smoke came racing up from the tunnel covering her and anyone else around.  She coughed, gasping for breath.  People covered in soot and dust came pouring out, breathing air that wasn’t heavy; the white of their eyes and teeth stood out starkly. Stumbling out behind them came Alex eyes wild, scanning the crowd for her.

They reached for each other.

Blogging A to Z: Unclear

Was I too unclear?  Did I not get my meaning across well?  Perhaps, I should have just said my piece face to face and not on email.  What do I do?  Do I just call her and explain?  Or just say it and be done?  God, I suppose this is why I have never dated.  I’m much too much of a mess.

Oh, my god.  I should go or else I’m going to be late.  Great.  Just what I need.  An extension to al this mess.

Now, what?  What’s the hold up now?  What’s going on?  Why are people screaming?

Blogging A to Z: Tone

You can’t really discern anything from an email, especially not tone or intent, Katherine thought to herself.  I mean, any number of things can happen and it’s not like talking face to face.

But as much as Katherine told herself this, the more the email worried her.  There was nothing she could do until it was time to go see him and until then, she was on pins and needles.

She slowly gathered her stuff together to go and meet him.  But she could not shake the deep feeling of despair that had settled in her stomach.  Quietly, she walked.

Blogging A to Z: Shadows

The setting sun threw shadows as they walked the down the street.  They ran out of things to say to each other but while there was silence, it wasn’t uncomfortable.  They were warm and excited from the talking.  Street lamps came on one by one seemingly lighting their way, throwing the menacing shadows further into the darkness.

Eventually, they arrived at her doorstep.  She stood on the first step so they were eye to eye.  She smiled and he smiled back.  They fumbled for words, stuttering;  blushes reddening their faces.

She leaned in.

He leaned in.

Smiling they went in.

Blogging A to Z: Romantic

“That’s one of your problems, you know?” said Abigail at the same time Matt said to Alex.

“No, what?” said Katherine and Alex at the same time in different parts of the cafe.

“You’re too much of a romantic.”

“What?”

Matt and Abigail sighed.  “Romantic.  Idealistic.  THat’s what I meant.  You’re too idealistic.  Your standards are too high.”

They blinked, incredulously.

“So?”

“So, you’ll never find anyone with that attitude.  No one will ever measure up.  I”m afraid you’ll end up alone.”

“I appreciate your concern, really, but ultimately, it’s not up to you on whether or not I’m happy.”

I am an *Awesome* Person…

…who has forgotten to write and hit publish on things.

Sorry about that.  To be fair, I was driving home from my parents house which was four and half hours away and I was recovering from the drive…which I managed to hurt my back and suffer a migraine while driving home.

Awesome.

So, I’m back and will catch up with the A to Z Challenge.  I promise.

Blogging A to Z: Question

“Let me ask you a question then,” Abigail said in between bites of salad.  “What would you do if the perfect person walked through those doors right now?  What would you do?”

Katherine blinked and trying to imagine her perfect person.  He would be tall, good-looking but not ridiculously good looking, well-mannered, intelligent, funny, kind, warm-hearted, and patient.  Very, very patient.  She tried to imagine what he’d look like.  Would he have brown hair?  Blonde?  Black?  Freckles?  Fair-skinned?  What?  What would he look like?

“Nothing, because he doesn’t exist,” Katherine said after a minute of thinking.

Just the door opened.
